lazyguy666 Total Posts: 42 | Posted: Sun Oct 26, 2008 07:40 am no intention of creating unnecessary controversy but some sources differ on the most common site of carcinoid tumor. ROBBINS 7th :"The appendix is the most common site of gut carcinoid tumors, followed by the small intestine (primarily ileum), rectum, stomach, and colon. However, the rectal tumors may represent up to half of tumors that come to clinical attention. Those that arise in the stomach and ileum are frequently multicentric, but the remainder tend to be solitary lesions." so depends whether question set by AIIMS patho dept or medicine dept!! for our sake i hope that such questions dont appear in exams and leave things to lucky guesswork! another question of this type is in MAY AIIMS08 Q.most common pre-pubertal testicular tumor confusion is between endodermal sinus tumor and teratoma.different books give different answers!it appears that yolk sac/endodermal sinus tumor is overall the commonest but may not present due to being aysmptomatic but teratoma is most commonly presenting tumor if only we knew what was going on in the mind of the paper setter!! |
