Hi,

Can anybody help me out with this mcq, how to arrive at the answer which is B

For near point of 20 CMS, a Hypermetrope of +4D has to exercise accommodation of ?

A) + 4.0 D
B) + 9.0 D
C) + 10.0 D
D) 0 D

The no of dioptres of accommodation needed to focus at a near point is inversely proportional to distance in metres.

So at a near point of 20cms i.e 1/5 metres, an emmetropic eye has to exercise accomodation of +5 dioptres ;

(N.B Correction to be applied: +5D for near fixation and +4D for hypermetropia)

Here it is hypermetrope so he will have to accommodate +9 dioptres.

Beware of twists in question esp wordings...SO dont mug up...Understand the basics thoroughly before committing..Ophthal is the toughtest and high standard always in AIIMS
