indent Total Posts: 54 | Posted: Sat Sep 13, 2008 09:23 pm Charcot's triads - named for Jean-Martin Charcot, the French neurologist who first described these combinations of signs in relation to these diseases. 1) Charcot's triad 1: nystagmus, intention tremor, and scanning speech (sometimes associated with multiple sclerosis but is not pathognomonic for multiple sclerosis) 2) Charcot's triad 2: jaundice, fever and right upper quadrant abdominal pain (seen in ascending cholangitis) Note: Presence of hypotension and mental status changes together with Charcot's triad 2 - is known as Reynolds' pentad. |
