Smoking reduces the indicence of only 2 cancers -

1. Endometrial cancers
2. Thyroid cancers

quite surprised to see this!
did a little search for this and no mechanism or hypotheses seem to be put up anywhere and this is a statistical observation at present
until now the only positive pointt i knew about smoking was that it reduced the severity of IBD

Mechanism: From what i can recall -

Endometrial CA is dependent on Estrogen. Smoking reduces the Body Wt, leading to less fat, leading to less conversion of steriods to estrogens.

As for thyroid cancer - Something related to above but exact mechanism not known. Note: Thyroid cancer is also more common in women.
