| RABIES Total Posts: 42 | Posted: Thu Jan 24, 2008 07:15 pm Imatinib mesylate is highly effective in the treatment of chronic phase CML and so should be considered as the drug of first choice in CML.but I have doubts whether it is overall treatment of choice.I THINK IT SHOULD BE HSCT.STEM CELL TRANSPLANT.ANY FEED BACK In the updated guidelines, NCCN maintained that hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is the treatment of choice for patients with CML as long as they are good candidates for such treatment. "HSCT has definite survival benefits, whereas, despite very promising early responses, the survival benefit, long-term toxicities, and durability of response of imatinib are unknown," NCCN stated in its guidelines.
